In Tune With The Tunes : Rihanna – Anti

*subconsciously singing* Work Work Work Work Work Work ….. If you haven’t been living under a rock these past couple of weeks, then you have surely heard “Work” by Rihana featuring the 6 god Drake, off her highly anticipated “Anti” album.

With over 225 million plus views on YouTube, you can watch “Work” video here : Rihanna – Work (Explicit) ft. Drake

“Work” has been constantly played on the radio, social events, tweeted about online, and of course criticized for its Island flare, which most have mistaken for gibberish.

If you are a part of Rihanna’s world wide fan group “Rihanna Navy,” then you are aware that Rihanna is from Barbados, and has a Bajan accent. What most people don’t realize is that “Work” is actually mixed with Patois, an informal slang often spoken in various parts of the world.

Due to our African background, we were able to recognize that this song wasn’t completely gibberish, and actually gave it a chance instead of bashing it from the start. Once you’ve heard the song, it’s hard to get it out of your head. Even celebrities like Ariana Grande, Jennifer Lopez and Karreuche have been seen on the internet grooving to the single.

“Work” isn’t the only song from “Anti” worth mentioning. Rihanna blessed us with her vocals on several erotic and heart wrenching ballads on this album, which many fans were either surprised, or sincerely appreciated the body of work. Other singles off the album worth listening to on repeat are, “Kiss It Better” “Needed Me” “Love On The Brain” “Yeah I Said It.”

Let’s just admit that Rihanna’s long tease (2 years, but who’s counting?) was worth it!

You can stream the album on Tidal, Apple Music and even on Spotify.

Feel free to comment and let us know what you think about the album.
